Innocent of Muslim Films on YouTube
(Source: Seruu.com 2012)
In the article of ‘Pakistan’s PM order YouTube halt over anti-Islam film’ by Reuters 17 September 2012, YouTube is being order to
stop anti-Islam films by the prime minister of Pakistan after a video was made
which is taken to be not respecting to the Prophet Mohammad. This incident has
anger the Islamic world which lead to some of the believer reacted violently. Viewer
of the video felt that the video are offensive to Islam.
After the incident of 911
attacks, prejudice and inequality often falls onto Muslims. Islam is being
assumed as a violent religion. This has brought up the issue of racist and stereotype. Racism are define in two ways by Nittle
(2011) which is assume of different race will have different characteristic and
one is more superior to another. The other definition will be the discrimination and prejudice based on
race.
In my opinion on the
issue, I think that we should not have prejudice and discrimination towards
Islam believer as violent act are against Islamic or most religious rules. We should
not have prejudice towards Muslims just because minority of then acted
violently. For example, Muslims have violent Muslim and peaceful Muslim. Same
goes to Christian to have violent and peaceful ones.
On another point of
view, freedom of speech is everyone privileges. On the peaceful Muslim angle,
they voice out their feelings through Vlog or Facebook page to perform their dissatisfied.
However, although cultural
differences and religious value may have different extent on freedom of speech,
I think that a film which contain insulting content are not appropriate use of
freedom of speech. It is morality wrong to insult people.
On factors for government
censorship, every country has different cultural, religious value
and political leader. In my opinion, due to the background differences, government
has rights to censor or ban things which are not respecting and harm human
rights.
As conclusion, we should respect each other’s without
mark of nationality, race, gender and so.
